There are many technologies developed by various organisations in the past which in some or other way affected the privacy of the people. Development of technology must be done citing the benefits that it will provide to the society. The technology that is being developed in this regard is people detector. This report highlights various aspects related to this technology development and the ethical issues emerging from it. People Detector This is a technology which uses Artificial intelligence in order to detect people by their physical attributes (Biometric face recognition technology, 2018). This system has used two kinds of technologies in it namely face and gait recognition. It captures image of the face of people or their movement like their walking style so as to identify the individual. It uses high definition cameras and stores image of people or walking style in their database and then use it for detection. Stakeholders There are many stakeholders that can be directly affected with this kind of technology. The Stakeholders that gets benefits from this technology are: Government: This will help them in recognising people and maintaining the security of the country (Drosou, Ioannidis, Moustakas and Tzovaras, 2011). Private firms: There are many private organisations that can use it for monitoring their employees activities as well as for providing authentication to access various resources of the company. Intelligence: They can utilise it for keeping watch on the terrorists and other anti-national or anti-social elements. Hence this technology may help in protecting country from any kind of security threats. Firms: The Company and investor that are developing this technology will have monetary benefits. Intellectual property protection It is always necessary that company makes intellectual property protection so as to achieve maximum benefits from their developed technology. It is essential for the firms to make sure that their product idea is not stolen by anybody else. There are two kinds of intellectual property protection that company can seek: Patent: This is an intellectual property protection that is used for some kind of innovative product. In this government provides inventor exclusive right to sell, offer, use and import inventions for limited period of time (WIPO, 2018). It is always provided on the three requirements: Is it new, is it non-obvious and is it having some kind of industrial applicability. Trade secret: This intellectual property helps company in safeguarding their secrets related to trade so that others cannot take advantage of design, patterns, process and instrument of the product developed by the firm. This helps in safeguarding economic benefits in favour of developers. It is not granted by any government rather it needs to be safeguarded by developer themselves. Advantages of using protection It helps firms in giving them competitive edge in the market as no other person can use it without developers permission. It also protects developers economic interest as no one other can use this technology for making money without consent of developer. Disadvantage of using protection Takes a lot of time and money for having such protection and have to be fully ensured that similar patents do not exist. Validity of patents or trade secret cannot be guaranteed. Potential opportunities This company has several potential opportunities related to the development of such technology (Macnish, 2012). This can be understood in the terms that there are many security concerns that are attached to any place. This is due to the reason that there are larger numbers of people that are involved in security industry and this technology works without human interventions that may lead to job cuts in this area. In the world which is already facing problem of unemployment, this will enhance the problem. Potential risk involved There are many kinds of risks that are attached with the use of such kind of technology (Tene, 2011). Some of the issues in this regard are as follows: Development of this technology requires a large amount of data like the facial data of millions of people along with the walking pattern so there is a risk that it can go in vein if all the data is not connected. This technology needs to be 100 % accurate so as to be used in various places as any slight variations also can result in failure of the whole system. Drawbacks of the technology This technology requires a larger amount of investment for its development and use. This is because large number of devices needs to be placed at various locations as well as there will be requirement of data warehouse which can be costlier process. It is not ethically accepted in any country where there are privacy laws. Formal permission from the individual needs to be taken while keeping them under the watch of this kind of technology. Stakeholders that are involved in this process are employees of the development firm as well as the users that will take the use of this technology. As both can have loses if they are not managed properly. Summarisation Day by day security concerns are increasing in the daily life operations of different organisations or the overall nation. In spite of risk involved in the use of such technology there are larger benefits that are involved in it especially in regards to economic benefits.
